Earthling Kids Explore the Stardome!

Owairaka School has been shuttling to the Stardome Observatory this week. We met with educator John, who was very knowledgeable about the universe. He showed us some great demonstrations of the reasons behind day and night, the seasons, and the phases of the moon. What an awesome excursion! We also went on a virtual tour of the solar system with some bug-like aliens.

At Stardome when we first got out of the bus, we waited for John. Then we learned about space for half an hour. Then we did a quiz about space. We had to find the photo to get the answer.  We did the quiz on a tablet. I was in team “Sun”. There were a lot of teams. After that we went into a round room. There was a big screen and we watched something about space. Then we went back on our bus and got to school.

Stardome

Yesterday Room 17 went to Stardome. But first we went on a purple bus to get there. The first classes were Rm 17, 21 and 20. When we got there, there was a careperson and his name was John. He said when you come in you have to sit in the front row. So we did as he said. We spent half an hour in the Education room. Then we spent an hour in the Planetarium. We watched an Alien movie. It was creepy for me. But before that, we did a Quiz about the planets. We went in groups.

RM 17 and the trip to Stardome.

Everyone in RM 17 was excited to go to Stardome. We all hopped on a purple bus and soon were in the city. My Mum came too and me and my friend Mariam played some hand games on the way (including my fave "Apple on a Stick").

Soon we were there and, inside, a kind man called John led us to a room with a projector. We all sat down on chairs and watched the magic happen. John told us about night, day and how Earth spins. After half an hour, we all left for a Quiz and our team was called Team Sun. After that we saw that we got 100 points!

Yesterday room 20, 21 and 17 jumped in a purple bus and went to Stardome. It was so fun. We got to play hand games on the way to Stardome (including my favorite "Apple on the Stick). We got to do quizzes and we learned a lot of stuff about our solar system (even the ones we already knew). We also got to watch a movie. I do not know what it was called but it was fun to watch. If you got dizzy you had to look at your feet. We also got to sit in chairs that went way back from normal chairs. It was the lucky last thing. Then, after, we went to the bus and went safely to school. It was soooo FUN.
