Keeping our tamariki (children) safe is very important. We had a visit from Animal Management to teach the students some good strategies to use when dealing with unknown kurī (dogs)... such as the fearsome beast known only as "Cody" (pictured below).
Here's a video about dog safety: Dog Safety
Cody... or should I say: Cujo? |
Really, Cody was lovely - very patient and unfazed by the children.
If a dog is encountered when out walking or playing, these guidelines may help.
If a dog is on its own, leave it alone!
Walk backwards, avoid eye contact.
If approached by a dog, the children were shown ways that might avoid injury:
THE BAG |
THE JACKET |
THE UMBRELLA |
If these things were not working, they were shown a position to adopt that will ensure maximum possible safety - note the hands over the neck!
